Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people ages 10 to 34 in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Additionally, a study published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology says depression rates among children ages 14 to 17 increased by more than 60% between 2009 and 2017.

The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation is hosting a webinar titled: Youth Suicide Prevention: Responding to the Crisis. The webinar will be led by Maureen Underwood, a licensed clinical social worker, certified group psychotherapist, and nationally recognized expert on youth suicide prevention.

This webinar will explain:

  • the language about suicide
  • the school-based definition of suicide
  • the roles that enable a school to develop a comprehensive and best-practice suicide prevention strategy.
