The Peer Recovery Center of Excellence Webinar December 16: Words Matter
The Great Lakes MHTTC is happy to announce the launch of the Peer Recovery Center of Excellence (PR CoE)!
Our team at UW–Madison is looking forward to our work in Core Area 2, building and strengthening the capacity of Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs). During the planning process for the Peer Recovery Center of Excellence, we recognized Recovery Community Organizations as the principal trainers and employers of peer recovery specialists. With that understanding, we knew that a vital part of our work needs to be dedicated to supporting RCOs with training and technical assistance focused on strengthening RCO's capacity to expand the continuum of care into community settings through the use of peer-based recovery support services.
Kris Kelly, PR CoE Core Area 2 Project Manager shared her thoughts on the importance of the PR CoE mission, saying, "Supporting RCOs with free and accessible training and technical assistance helps grow the peer recovery workforce. There is untapped potential within RCOs to fill the gaps in the current continuum of care for people experiencing substance misuse and substance use disorder. My experience working for a RCO gave me first-hand knowledge of the strengths and barriers that come along with running grassroots, nonprofit organizations. My hope is to provide robust training and technical assistance opportunities based on feedback from RCO leadership, staff, stakeholders, and community members."
