Prevention Experience: 2000 hours of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) prevention work experience
Supervised Prevention Experience: 120 hours specific to the domains (see below) with a minimum of ten hours in each domain
Educational / Training Requirements:
- 100 hours of prevention specific education
- Fifty hours of this education must be ATOD specific
- Six hours must be specific to ethics in prevention, and six hours must be specific to HIV/AIDs
- One hour of education is equal to 50 minutes of continuous instruction
Examination: Applicants must pass the IC&RC International Written Prevention Specialist Examination
Code of Ethics Requirements:
- Applicants must sign a prevention specific code of ethics statement or affirmation statement
Recertification Requirements:
- Recertification applications must be accompanied by documentation of 40 hours of continuing education
Additional Requirements:

Residency- Applicants for Indiana certification must live or work in the state 51 (fifty-one) percent of the time
