Prevention Experience:

  • 3,500 hours prevention experience obtained within the past eight years.

  • 3,200 must be paid and supervised work experience;

Supervised Prevention Experience: 

 

  • 3,200 of 3,500 hours must be paid and supervised work experience;
  • 120 hours of supervised practicum in the six core performance domains requiring 20 hours in each domain;

Educational / Training Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 150 total continuing education/training contact hours in prevention to include the following:
  • 6 hours of professional prevention ethics in the past two years.
  • 50 hours of ATOD education/training
  • 80 hours must be obtained in the past two years with at least 60 of these 80 hours obtained outside the applicant’s place of employment.
  • No more than 40 hours of web-based training (Adobe Connect, etc.) are allowed.

Examination: 

Pass IC&RC written examination

References & Recommendations: 

Three letters of recommendation

Pre-IC&RC Certification Level Title: 

Certified Prevention Technician

Pre- IC&RC Certification Level Requirements:

  • 2,000 hours paid or volunteer prevention experience obtained within the past eight years;

  • 120 hours of supervised practicum in the six core performance domains requiring 20 hours in each domain.
  • 60 continuing education/training contact hours in prevention to include the following:
  • 6 hours of professional prevention ethics in the past two years.
  • Strongly recommend:
  • SAPST Training
  • Baseline Training
  • No more than 40 hours of web-based training (Adobe Connect, etc.) are allowed.
  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Three letters of recommendation;
  • Signed Code of Ethics

Advanced Title: 

Certified Prevention Professional

Advanced Requirements: 

  • 3,500 hours prevention experience obtained within the past eight years. 3,200 hours must be paid and supervised work experience

  • 120 hours of supervised practicum in the six core performance domains requiring 20 hours in each domain
  • 150 total continuing education/training contact hours in prevention to include the following:
  • 6 hours of professional prevention ethics in the past two years

  • BA/BS
