Bringing it Back to the Fundamentals Protecting Youth from Alcohol and Drug Use

Description:

If you are a sports fan, you appreciate the importance of fundamentals, or the basic skills, techniques, and principles that form the foundation for success. In substance use prevention, there are fundamentals, too—from community engagement to using evidence-informed practices, programs, and policies—that help us reach the outcomes we want. If we learn and internalize these fundamentals and revisit them when we are not making progress, we can protect youth from harm and provide the support they need to grow into healthy, thriving adults. Whether you are new to prevention, feeling stuck, or simply want to take your game to the next level, join us for this 1.5-hour webinar to explore the fundamentals of prevention success. We will review skills and principles that contribute to positive prevention outcomes and explore key aspects of the Strategic Prevention Framework that are vital for every prevention practitioner to grasp.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe at least three fundamental skills that are important for prevention practitioners to learn
  • Identify community partners and sectors to involve in prevention activities to maximize success
  • List key tasks and processes in an evidence-informed prevention planning process (Strategic Prevention Framework)
