Although we have a number of buzzwords focused on diversity and cultural inclusion, this is topic should have always been at the forefront of our minds. In fact, when you truly examine our code of ethics and the Strategic Prevention Framework, is it obvious that diversity, equity, and inclusion are embedded in our professional standards. For a long time, we have not embodied this truth, and thus the COVID-19 pandemic magnified the issues of social injustice and structural racism that plague our society and our profession. This session is designed to place a spotlight on the WHY and HOW we can be intentional about improving health equity in our prevention practice. We will examine the specific code of ethics principles that reflect a commitment to diversity as a core philosophy. Additionally, we will walk through the Strategic Prevention Framework from a health equity lens. This is an interactive session. Come prepared to share your innovative thoughts!
OBJECTIVES: Participants will be able to:
- Think critically about addressing health equity in prevention;
- Retain the knowledge gained and create action steps for embedding health equity into their prevention practice;
- Describe how to bring an equity lens to each component of the SPF; and
- Share their training experience with at least one colleague to facilitate a discussion on how to address equity issues in prevention.
