Tools and Techniques for a Mentoring Relationship (HHS Region 1)

This was a closed training series (no registration link) for our mentors participating in the mentorship pilot program. The last date of the series was 8/2/21. There was a total of six sessions, with each session conducted from 11a-12p. 6 training hours total.

Description:

This series will help the participants gain a skill in developing and maintaining a working alliance with the mentees based on the Motivational Interviewing approach. The series will explore how to integrate the Motivational Interviewing mindset in the mentoring relationship. The aim is to enhance engagement between the mentor and the mentee with the hope of increasing mentoring outcomes. The series will cover areas of mentoring definitions, ethics in the mentoring relationship, phases of mentoring, types of mentoring, role of a mentor/ role of mentee, self-determination theory, and communication skills in the mentoring process. The series is interactive, and the participants will practice the skill during the sessions.
