This Advisory, Implementing Tobacco Cessation Treatment for Individuals with SMI : A Quick Guide for Program Directors and Clinicians can help clinicians who work in a mental health facility implement a tobacco cessation program to reduce the use of tobacco-related products and tobacco-related diseases among clients with SMI.

  1. Do you work in a mental health treatment facility such as a residential treatment program, or an outpatient treatment program?
  2. Do you want to take action to reduce the use of tobacco products and tobacco-related diseases among your clients with SMI?

 

If you answered “yes” to these two questions, this guide can help you implement a tobacco cessation program for individuals with SMI. This objective will require staff time and resources, and it may also require a culture shift within your agency.
