Webinar Overview and Objectives
Preventing substance misuse to avoid the development of a use disorder and other harmful consequences is an often-misunderstood endeavor despite decades of prevention research and application. Substance misuse stems from an accumulation of many factors over time, making it challenging to understand and address. This virtual presentation combined with group discussion will define primary substance misuse prevention, outline an evidence-based, data-driven strategic planning model, and share key components of effective substance misuse prevention. By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Define prevention and distinguish it from other components of the behavioral health continuum of care
- Name the steps and core components of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF)
- Deduce how fidelity to the SPF results in better substance misuse prevention outcomes
- Conclude why community collaboration and multiple evidence-based interventions are necessary to achieve meaningful, sustainable reductions in substance misuse and its consequences
Please come prepared to discuss your own prevention work and share your experiences!
Audience
Prevention practitioners and partners new to prevention or interested in learning more about its foundations.
