Title: Certified Prevention Specialist
Examination: Pass the IC&RC Examination for Prevention Specialists.
Educational / Training Requirements:
- Received 150 hours of education relevant to the PS domains, of which 24 hours must be alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) specific and 6 hours in prevention specific professional ethics and responsibilities.
- Education is defined as formal, structured instruction in the form of workshops, seminars/webinars, institutes, in-services, college/university credit courses, and WDH approved distance education.
- There is no time limit on the use of education for initial certification.
- Bachelor’s degree or a total of four years (8000 hours) of employment experience
Prevention Experience: Two years (4000 hours) of employment or volunteer experience providing prevention services. Experience must have been gained within the last ten years. At least 51% of the relevant experience must be within the Prevention Specialist (PS) domains.
Supervised Prevention Experience: Received 120 hours of on-the-job supervision specific to the PS domains with a minimum of 10 hours in each domain.
Code of Ethics: Signed and dated Code of Ethical Conduct. Signed, dated and notarized Release.
Additional Requirements/Information: Applicant must either live or work in WY at time of application at least 51% of the time.
