Are you a prevention practitioner looking to become a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS)? Do you identify as Hispanic and/or Latino or serve Hispanic/Latino communities through your prevention efforts? If you answered yes to both these questions, we’d like to invite you to participate in a training series designed to help you navigate this prevention certification process.
The National Hispanic and Latino Prevention Technology Transfer Center (NHL PTTC) pleased to announce a six-session training series to prepare prevention providers from the Latino community for certification as a prevention specialist. The trainings will each be two hours in length and will take place between March-June 2023. NHL PTTC will accept and review applications from all interested individuals and will accept up to 30 participants into this training program.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion for twelve contact hours that can be used toward their CPS application requirements.
Each session will cover key concepts and competencies within each of the International Credentialing and Reciprocity Consortium’s (IC&RC) prevention specialist performance domains.
As homework between sessions, participants will be asked to review the IC&RC job analysis and prepare questions on the domain(s) to be discussed at the next session.

Sandra Puerini Del Sesto, M.Ed, ACPS is a consultant and master trainer in behavioral health and strategic planning for states and non-profits. For over thirty-five years, Ms. Del Sesto has provided throughout the United States training, community and strategic planning, program development, and capacity building in all areas of prevention practice. She has worked extensively at both the community and state levels directing a statewide prevention agency, developing strategic prevention/behavioral health care plans, creating curriculum and programs for high-risk youth and families as well as instructional guidelines for substance misuse and mental health education. She is a member of the advisory boards of the New England Prevention Technology Transfer Center (PTTC), the National Latino PTTC and the New England School of Addiction Studies. Sandra serves as the RI delegate to and the former Prevention Committee Co-Chair of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), which certifies professionals working in behavioral health. Sandra is a co-author of SAMHA’s Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training (SAPST) and its basic and advanced Prevention Ethics courses as well as many other face-to-face and online courses in prevention.
Jessica Goldberg, MSW, MPH, CPS is a certified prevention specialist and highly skilled trainer and technical assistance provider. For over a decade, she has specialized in building capacity through the design and delivery of impactful learning events, consultation, and coaching support to improve behavioral health outcomes. Jess brings a deep commitment to health equity to her leadership of in-person and virtual TTA provision. She currently supports prevention efforts at the local, state, and national level through her roles on the Northeast and Caribbean PTTC, the Strategic Prevention Technical Assistance Center (SPTAC) and Prevention Solutions @ EDC (PS@EDC). Her areas of expertise include preventing youth substance use, promoting cross-sector collaborations, addressing behavioral health disparities, and supporting communities through strategic planning, logic model development, and sustainability planning processes.
