Section 508 was made part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 in 1998. Its purpose is to require agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. This fact sheet provides further information, along with links, to introduce all professionals to Section 508 and considerations for accessible online materials.

She worked as a regional councils coordinator for the Puerto Rican Coalition for Prevention and Reduction of Underage Drinking in Puerto Rico. This coalition was sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and was one of thirteen in the US to receive the island wide grant. Ms. Menendez also managed and served as director of a youth project that was sponsored by the Traffic Safety Commission and provided educational programs related to traffic safety and underage drinking to the island’s youth. From 2005-2010, she coordinated a Drug-Free Community grant in Carolina, Puerto Rico. The grant enabled the Carolina Community Coalition to succeed in changing public policies related to alcohol, tobacco, and drug use among youth. Jose Malave Consultant, Trainer @Promoviendo Alternativas Saludables (PAS, Corp.) Mr. Jose Malave Rexach has a professional experience of more than 20 years working in the field of substance abuse prevention, community mobilization, public policy and development of community coalitions. He started in the substance abuse prevention field as research assistant of the Puerto Rico Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking (a grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Technical Assistance of the American Medical Association). In 2003 went to direct the efforts of the Coalition focused on environmental policy changes to reduce alcohol access to minors. He is one of the founders of Health Alternative Promotions; a consulting organization to promote health and help organizations to promote policies that contributes for personal and organizational quality of life, community mobilization and strategic planning. Mr. Malave was the project director of Carolina Alcohol and Drug Free Community by ASPIRA of Puerto Rico helping reducing Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs among youth

Today we will be talking with Lisse Regehr. Lisse is the President and CEO of Thrive Allen County. She oversees Thrive’s efforts to build a statewide rural health advocacy network in Kansas and coordinates engagement with state and local policymakers. And just a little bit about Thrive Allen County. They are the largest and most prominent rural health advocacy organization in Kansas. They work relentlessly to make Allen County the healthiest rural community in the state. In 2017, Thrive’s vision was recognized nationally, as Allen County won the prestigious Culture of Health Prize from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, for pursuing innovative ideas and bringing partners together to rally around a shared vision of health. The Pacific Southwest Prevention Technology Transfer Center (PTTC) is offering a new product line for prevention practitioners and other key stakeholders called Best Science Slide Decks for Prevention Professionals, or slideDecks4U for short. These slide decks are intended to highlight a topic in 10 slides or less. The purpose of this slide deck is to provide prevention practitioners with researched and vetted tools they can feel confident in using in their prevention presentations. All slide decks include presenter notes and full references.   The slide deck presented here highlights and defines the key changes to the Spectrum of Behavioral Health Services (formerly called, and still often referred to as, the "Continuum of Care") published in the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine 2019 report "Fostering Healthy Mental, Emotional, and Behavioral development in Children and Youth: A National Agenda." USE: These slides can be used as a stand-alone overview of the updated “Spectrum of Behavioral Health Services” or incorporated into other presentations or materials. Citing the Pacific Southwest PTTC as the author of these slides is greatly appreciated, noting that the majority of the content is derived from the various Institute of Medicine/National Research Council/National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine reports on this topic and other key publications.    Each slide deck includes presenter notes to guide the speaker on presenting the information contained in the slides. Preventing Opioid Misuse and Opioid Overdose: Moving Upstream Date October 31, 2019   Description The “all hands on deck” call to address the opioid crisis has challenged our efforts to implement primary prevention that complements other efforts to address the crisis across the spectrum of behavioral health care services. This interactive webinar will explore ways to expand prevention to move our work more upstream--beyond preventing deaths from opioid overdoses to preventing the misuse that leads to those overdoses. This webinar will include an overview of 2018 NSDUH data and the risk and protective factors associated with opioid misuse and overdose, as well as a range of promising and evidence-based strategies to consider as part of creating a comprehensive plan to move the work of prevention upstream. The webinar will also explore community mobilization strategies and ways to build additional partnerships.   Learning Objectives • Describe what is known in the research about risk and protective factors associated with opioid misuse. • List a variety of interventions that prevent opioid misuse and overdoses. • List strategies that have strong evidence of effectiveness and those that have emerging or promising evidence.   Presenters Kevin Haggerty, MSW, PhD specializes in prevention programs at the community, school, and family levels. For more than 30 years he has focused on developing innovative ways to organize the scientific knowledge base for prevention so that parents, communities, and schools can better identify, assess, and prioritize customized approaches that meet their needs. He has an extensive research background in the intersection of biological and environmental risks for drug abuse in emerging adults and is an expert on substance abuse and delinquency prevention. Additionally, Dr. Haggerty is an investigator for the Community Youth Development Study, which tests the effectiveness of the Communities That Care program. Michelle Frye-Spray, MS, CPS is a Project Manager at the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies at the University of Nevada, Reno. Michelle leverages her passion for upstream prevention with over 25 years of prevention-related experiences working with schools, communities, states, tribal organizations, and jurisdictions. Her skills include training design and facilitation; community capacity-building; and navigating culturally complex communities and systems to oversee the delivery of prevention services that are culturally appropriate and audience-specific. Alyssa O'Hair, MPH, MA, CPS is a Senior Manager, Workforce Development at the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies at the University of Nevada, Reno. With over 10 years of experience providing training and technical assistance, she currently serves as the Project Director for the Pacific Southwest Prevention Technology Transfer Center, which aims to build the skills of the substance abuse prevention workforce.
