Welcome to “Walking in Wellness,” a Podcast dedicated to empowering those professionals who take on substance misuse prevention work — with the mindset and skill set necessary to prioritize wellness…every day. 

The Walking in Wellness Series features subject matter experts who share their insights, experiences, and tangible learnings that enable substance misuse and other behavioral health professionals to utilize evidence-based practices to promote well-being. Using inspirational stories, subject matter experts will provide listeners with skills and knowledge to address the challenges of offering critical support to individuals in need while maintaining positive well-being. The podcast series will address physical, emotional, social, occupational, and even financial evidence-based wellness practices that professionals can "walk away with."

Mylitta shared her struggles with her weight and depression since she was nineteen. After a difficult conversation with her doctor, she faced the reality of the unhealthy relationship she had developed with food. With much-needed soul-searching, Mylitta created a new relationship with wellness, which resulted in her releasing 161 pounds fifteen months later. Today, Mylitta inspires people all around the globe to change their thinking, tackle their goals, and win at wellness.

Wife, mom, entrepreneur, and author of the book “Slim Down Level Up” Mylitta Butler was depressed and had struggled with her weight since she was nineteen.  At her heaviest, she tipped the scale at 304 pounds.  After a difficult conversation with her doctor, she faced the reality of the unhealthy relationship she had developed with food.

David Zidar, LISW-S, has worked in child welfare since 1982 as an administrator, trainer, and therapist. A seasoned leader, Dave served as Vice President for residential services in Kentucky for seven years and has also worked in public agencies at the executive level. Dave has a BSW from Capital University, a MSSA from Case Western Reserve, and a certification in Juvenile Sex Offender Treatment from the University of Louisville.

She notes that over 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some traumatic event, while others experience involuntary trauma triggers at some point. Although Trauma Triggers may seem unrelated to the initial trauma, these triggers are caused by associations that your brain makes as a protective measure to keep you safe in the future.
