COURSE DESCRIPTION

This training will be the second of a two-part series on risk and protective factors. Participants will learn about the risks associated with adverse childhood events (ACEs) and family history of addiction/genetic factors. Participants will also learn how to utilize protective factors to change how their genes are expressed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand adverse childhood events and the risk of addiction associated with experiencing childhood trauma.
  • Understand genetic factors associated with development of substance use disorders and how individuals can effect how their genes are expressed through key protective factors

PRESENTERS

Jessica HusleyJessica Hulsey, BA is the Executive Director of the Addiction Policy Forum, a national nonprofit organization that leads the fight against the deadly consequences of addiction and helps patients, families, and communities affected by the disease. Jessica has more than 25 years of experience in the field of prevention, treatment, and policy solutions to address substance use disorders and has collaborated with our nation’s top scientists to translate the science of addiction into digestible content for patients, families, and other key audiences.
