Psychological First Aid: Providing support in the immediate aftermath of disasters/traumatic events

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Psychological First Aid (PFA) equips prevention professionals with the skills to identify and respond to individuals experiencing crisis-related stress, helping people to cope more effectively.

The South Southwest PTTC has teamed up with the Network for Enhancing Wellness in Disaster Affected Youth (NEW DAY) to offer a comprehensive two-part PFA training webinar. Join us and hear from Dr. Robin Gurwitch, Senior Advisor for the NEW DAY and an internationally renowned expert in trauma and disaster response. Dr. Gurwitch will share insights on enhancing resilience and reducing the impact of trauma on communities.

This is a two day event. Certificates of participation are available for 8 prevention hours to those who attend the full training.

Registration will close June 11.

PRESENTER

Dr. Robin Gurwitch, a professor in the Duke University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Center for Child and Family Health, is a recognized expert in understanding and supporting children in the aftermath of trauma and disasters. She received her doctorate in Clinical/Medical Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, completed her internship in Pediatric Psychology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
