This New England PTTC resource is not specific to any one funding source or program. Although this roadmap has some information specific to the New England region, most of the information is applicable for all states/regions. This resource can be used by new preventionists, entering the field, in any federal, state, or locally funded prevention coalition, organization, or initiative.

This 6-hour, moderated course is appropriate for individuals who need 6-hours of ethics to become certified. The course explores the six principles of the Prevention Code of Ethics, brought to life with realistic examples designed to enhance participant understanding. The course also introduces a decision-making process to help practitioners apply this code to a variety of ethical dilemmas, and an online discussion area to facilitate discussion with other course participants.

The Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST) is intended as an introductory level course; throughout the course of their careers, prevention practitioners will need additional and more advanced workforce development opportunities beyond the SAPST. The SAPST is a foundational course of study in substance misuse prevention and is intended for entry-level prevention practitioners working in states, jurisdictions, tribes, and communities; the training is also appropriate for professionals working in related fields. The SAPST is grounded in current research and SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework and provides prevention practitioners with the knowledge and skills needed to implement effective, data-driven prevention programs, practices, and policies that reduce behavioral health disparities and improve wellness.

The SAPST is endorsed by IC&RC's Prevention Committee as an IC&RC-approved curriculum. This endorsement provides assurance that the SAPST is applicable toward the education and training requirement for IC&RC’s Prevention Specialist credential.
Participants completing the SAPST will receive two certificates of completion totaling to 31 hours of participation (5 hours for the online course and 26 for the in-person training).

If you answered yes to both these questions, we’d like to invite you to participate in a training series designed to help you navigate this prevention certification process.
The National Hispanic and Latino Prevention Technology Transfer Center (NHL PTTC) pleased to announce a six-session training series to prepare prevention providers from the Latino community for certification as a prevention specialist. The trainings will each be two hours in length and will take place between March-June 2023. NHL PTTC will accept and review applications from all interested individuals and will accept up to 30 participants into this training program.
This 3-hour SELF-PACED course is based on the moderated Ethics in Prevention: A Guide for Substance Misuse Prevention Practitioners Course, but was designed for participants to do on their own. Individuals will explore the six principles of the Prevention Code of Ethics, brought to life with realistic examples designed to enhance participant understanding. The course also introduces a decision-making process to help practitioners apply this code to a variety of ethical dilemmas.

The Advanced Ethics for Prevention Professionals course provide participants opportunities to refresh their understanding of the six principles of the Prevention Code of Ethics, explore ethical issues related to prevention topics, and practice applying the Prevention Code of Ethics to real-life situations using an ethical decision-making process
2.0 Hours Certificate of Completion Available
The Advanced Prevention Ethics: Focus on Social Medial Policy training is designed for advanced prevention professionals to explore the types of ethical dilemmas prevention practitioners face while working in the field, and the utility of the Prevention Code of Ethics in helping them respond appropriately. In particular, this course will focus on the application of ethical principles related to the use of social media in prevention work and the elements of a sound ethics policy for organizations and coalitions. The course is intended for experienced prevention professionals and will use role-playing, discussions, and didactic presentations to better understand the important role ethics plays in these two areas of concern.
The intended audience for this advanced course is prevention professionals who have completed a previous course in prevention ethics, are experienced prevention professionals, and maybe supervisors or in a senior position within their agency
Participants completing the training will receive a certificate for six (6) hours of participation. Participants can submit these certificates to their credentialing authority toward certification or re-certification
Professional ethical standards are based on values. Values are the basic beliefs that an individual thinks to be true and are also seen as guiding principles in one’s life or the basis on which an individual makes a decision. Join us for a deep dive into how creating equity in program planning is a fundamental ethical practice. The series will begin with a two-part discussion on the role of cultural humility and social justice in prevention ethics.
Objectives:
1. Summarize and apply the basic rules regarding ethics and professional behavior in prevention programming.
2. Recognize specific situations among colleagues in the workplace or within the community where ethics should guide actions.
3. Apply the code of ethics and decision-making process to different scenarios within the Strategic Planning Framework.
